This triptych is an appropriation of James Joyce’s “Eveline.” The short story recounts the life of Eveline who lives a dull, ordinary life with an abusive father whom she has to support. She is faced with the dilemma of staying at home like a dutiful daughter or escaping to Buenos Aires with her lover. Although she yearns for a new life, she can’t let go of her past or what’s familiar and doesn’t end up leaving. I mimic Eveline’s daily routine and the never-ending cycle that she is unable to break free from with repeated circles containing text from the story. The design also signifies that consistently circling over the past prevents one from being in the present and looking towards the future. The muted and banal color palette further reinforces the monotony of her life.
